Shepherd and Allen does not presently accept criminal law matters. The examples of criminal cases are provided below that relate to what we believe was government misconduct.
Doug Shepherd, along with other local counsel, represented a local business owner and female employee charged with criminally promoting pornography. Doug believes in free speech and a free press, in part because of his military service. After a three week jury trial, the jury determined the client was not guilty. Thereafter, Doug testified in federal district court on behalf of the clients, in a civil case, where the jury awarded the business owner over $1,000,000 in civil damages against the prosecuting authority.
Doug Shepherd represented a man who was charged with felony assault. After trial, the jury entered a verdict of not guilty and a finding that the assault was appropriate self-defense. With a finding of self-defense, the prosecuting authority was ordered to pay all the client’s attorney fees incurred in defending against the felony charge.
“Justice is the end [purpose] of government. It is the end [purpose] of civil society. It ever has been, and ever will be pursued, until it be obtained, or until liberty be lost in the pursuit.” – Alexander Hamilton
